On eBay.com, a $500 watch pays $75.40 in fees — about 15.1%. A $10,000 watch doesn't pay 20 times that: it pays $647.90, an effective 6.5%. That's tiered pricing. Jewelry uses a different kind of threshold, and mixing the two up is an expensive mistake.

Watches: three marginal bands
Watches, parts & accessories on eBay.com (no store or Starter store):
- 15% on the first $1,000 of the sale
- 6.5% on the part from $1,000 to $7,500
- 3% on anything above $7,500
Each rate applies only to the part of the sale inside its band. For a $10,000 watch:
15% up to 1,000: $1,000.00 × 15% = $150.00
6.5% from 1,000 to 7,500: $6,500.00 × 6.5% = $422.50
3% above 7,500: $2,500.00 × 3% = $75.00
Per-order fee: $0.40
Total: $647.90 (6.48% effective)
With a Basic or higher store, watches use a lower ladder — 12.5% to $1,000, 4% to $5,000, 3% above — so the same watch costs $435.40.
Jewelry: one rate for the whole sale
Jewelry (except watches) isn't tiered by band. It's 15% if the total sale is $5,000 or less and 9% on the entire sale if it's over $5,000 (13% and 7% with a Basic+ store). That creates a cliff:
- $5,000 necklace: $750.40
- $5,100 necklace: $459.40
- $10,000 necklace: $900.40 — more than the $647.90 a $10,000 watch pays
If a piece is worth around $5,000, pricing it just above the threshold can leave you with more money after fees. Women's handbags work the same way at $2,000 (15% → 9% on the whole sale).
Best Offer and the thresholds
Fees are calculated on the final price including shipping. Accepting a $4,900 offer on a $5,300 bracelet moves the whole sale from 9% back to 15% — $735.40 instead of $477.40. Check the threshold before you accept.
Watch fees on European eBay sites
Business sellers in Europe have their own watch tiers (private sellers in the UK, France and Italy pay nothing):
- eBay.co.uk (business): 12.9% up to £750, 3% on the rest
- eBay.de (business, wristwatches): 11% up to €990, 3% on the rest
- eBay.fr (business): 12% up to €990, 2% on the rest
- eBay.it (business): 11% up to €100, 5% to €990, 2% on the rest
Frequently asked questions
Do watch parts and accessories get the watch tiers?
Yes on eBay.com — the category is "Watches, Parts & Accessories", and the tiers apply to all of it.
Do promoted listings stack on top?
Yes. A 5% promoted rate on a $10,000 watch adds $500, more than doubling the $647.90 in normal fees.
Can I check a specific price?
Use the US calculator and choose "Watches" or "Jewelry" — it applies both kinds of threshold correctly.
